Check out Sonny’s Video Interview. I like what he says and he did a great job speaking from the heart.
I too remember watching the events of 9/11 unfold on a big screen in the Frist campus center. When members of the Taliban were shown on television, I could feel everyone look at the screen, and look at me, and then look back at the screen, and look at me again. I wanted to jump in front of the screen and say, “Hey friends, look, that’s not me, see my turban’s actually much neater, I match the color with my clothes, it’s worn for religious purposes, and 97% of all turban wearing folks in the US are Sikhs–not the blatant stereotype that’s forming in your head as you watch CNN in these key formative moments.” Of course I would follow it by saying we should never make assumptions about people just by the way they look, and that even if their stereotype were true I’m still my own person and the actions of a few do not represent a whole group. Anyway check out Sonny’s video.
Update: Added the youtube clip. Update: Sonny Singh made the Front Page of the Times of India as well.

I read this on thelangarhall about this guy.
From Sonny’s blog:
“Driving home, we stopped to think about how much our lives have transformed over even the past even three months- there’s just no time for us to go out and drink hard like we used to (frequently) do, because we need to get up as early as we can to continue trying to chip away at the 10,000 things that need to get done, and actually be productive. When we do make it out, we’re a tired, lightweight version of ourselves that our previous selves would have openly mocked…”
How far will you walk in those different shoes?
Sonny’s personal life and practice aside, I don’t think that dampens the great results that Sikhs will reap from this campaign. Kenneth Cole’s website gets at least 150,000 visitors per month, and that’s 150,000 more people that can get a basic idea of the Sikh identity and the issues facing it today. Everything he says in the video is real and true, and aligns with Sikh beliefs. I hate writing off people based on their past actions. What he has done here is great–let’s focus on the good.
